A Prayer for Marriages, Families, and Singles

Eric Scott   -

Dream with me. Can you imagine people in our church building an altar? A place where they meet God? Can you imagine singles and families throughout our church reading God’s Word and praying powerful prayers?

This week, we are praying for marriages, families, and those who are single.

Can we believe together for our entire church — whether married, single, with children, or without — to devote themselves to understanding God’s Word and pray history-changing prayers?

Too often, our prayers are powerless because they are based on our feelings and lack of understanding of God’s Word and our perceived needs. These failures in prayer lead us to build personal agendas instead of discerning God’s will.

This week, let’s align our prayers with God’s will and move the mountains our singles and families face.

To do this, we need to understand God’s will for communities of Christian faith. Specifically, what is his mandate for us to communicate to one another and our families? Let’s turn to this passage of Scripture and listen to this call from heaven:

“Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed, and when you are getting up.”  Deuteronomy 6:4-7

This passage calls us to an altar where we commit to communicating God’s will and ways to those he has placed in our lives. When God was about to do something significant with his people, he would often ask them to build an altar — a holy place of commitment and remembrance where we appeal to heaven.

Through our prayers this week, let’s ask for altars to be built! Altars where God’s Word is broken open and powerful prayers are prayed. Pray for God’s kingdom to come and his will to be done here on earth as it is in heaven.Let’s pray for altars to be built where mountains are moved!

A PRAYER FOR MARRIAGES, FAMILIES, AND SINGLES

Father, we speak the name of Jesus over our lives, the singles in our church, and our marriages and families. We pray for each person and family to build spiritual altars where understanding of your Word occurs and prayers of faith are prayed, changing the landscape of personal lives, families, and our community. May these radical altars be built in the name of Jesus. Amen!
