Beware of the Drift – Week 8

Colossians 3:16-21 (NLT)

16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord.

19 Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.

20 Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.

Represent Jesus in your home by what you say and do.

Matthew 19:4-6 (NLT)

4 “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’” 5 And he said, “‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ 6 Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”

COMMUNITY GROUP MEETING OUTLINE

Where your faith intersects with real life!

Reconnect:

Each person shares a recent high and low from their life.

Explore:

Review the message notes.

Big Idea: Represent Jesus in your home by what you say and do.

Consider:

Choose one or two questions for your Group to discuss as time allows.

▶ Read Colossians 3:16-17. How is “winning” an argument not a win?

▶ Read Colossians 3:18. What does it look like for wives to make it easy for their husbands to love sacrificially? (How could this kind of lifestyle also work in other relationships where there should be submission – like a working environment?)

▶ Read Colossians 3:19. What does it look like for husbands to make it easy for their wives to honor voluntarily? (How could this kind of leadership also work in other relationships where there should be honor – like a working environment?)

▶ Reach Colossians 3:20-21. What can parents do to make it easy for their children to obey willingly?

▶ Brainstorm together. What are some conversation starter questions you could use at the family table?

Activate:

Spend a moment in silence to consider your response, then share your decision with the Group.

Read Romans 1:12. What is one way you could make your family table a place of encouragement? How could you make family mealtime the best part of your day?

Prayer:

Thank God for the highs and lift up the lows.

Pray for families, that we will represent Jesus to the world and encourage each other.
