The Blessing of Learned Obedience: Choosing Submission to Jesus
Just as children aren’t born knowing how to obey their parents, obedience is a learned trait. Because of this, the Bible does not just hold mere suggestions but vital instructions for followers of Jesus.
Drawing from the example of Jesus in the book of Hebrews, we see that deep reverence for God is the foundation for learned obedience. Jesus, despite being God’s Son, learned obedience through His suffering, which required Him to choose submission over self-preservation. This serves as a powerful reminder that submission to Jesus is not an emotional response but a conscious decision to deny oneself.
The reward for learned obedience is a newfound freedom in Christ, allowing us to live the abundant life He intended for us. Followers of Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, should move beyond their human desires and embrace God’s instructions, leading to spiritual maturity and a closer walk with Christ.
