Route 56 Retreat Recap

Published March 16, 2026

February was the last full month of winter! Did you make any memories in February 2026? I certainly did!

At the end of the month, I joined over 40 students, plus volunteer leaders, at Refreshing Mountain for the Route 56 Retreat. The Lord blessed us with beautiful weather, allowing us to spend lots of time outdoors enjoying games, connection, and fun.

Since the start of this school year at Route 56, our team has been praying that God would send more volunteers to be part of what He is doing in the ministry. Especially, we have prayed for more men to help lead our 5th and 6th grade boys. God provides all that we need, just as Jesus reminds his disciples:

Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” (Matthew 9:35–38)

As retreat preparations began, we realized God had already been answering that prayer. For the first time, from the very beginning of retreat planning, we had more than enough men from our Sunday morning teams who were willing to join us for the weekend! I am grateful for all the men and women who gave their time and energy to invest in students.

Throughout the weekend, leaders followed Jesus’ example of compassion. They cared for students who felt homesick, afraid, had questions, and who were too excited to sleep! We connected by playing games, sharing meals, having small group discussions, and worshipping together.

Our team also prayed that God would fill students with his Holy Spirit in a fresh way. As we studied the book of Acts and worshiped together, students were especially engaged during our large group gatherings.

One of my favorite moments was when students listed aspects of who Jesus is and what He has done. After writing individually and sharing with a friend, many students volunteered to share with the group. Here are just a few of the many shared…

  •  "The Lion and the Lamb"
  • "The King of kings"
  • "Salt & Light"
  • "A close companion."
  • "Jesus brought himself down to the lower class.”
  • “Jesus saved us.”
  • "Jesus forgives us.”

Students continued to share for quite a while. I wish I could remember them all!

What a privilege it is to see the Holy Spirit Reveal Jesus to the group in such a meaningful way. Thank you for praying for our retreat!
