The Power of a Praying Church

My own life was changed 11 years ago through prayer at Worship Center.

Worship Center member Larry Tedder leads Worship Center's Prayer Ministry. This post was submitted by him recently.

I don't know about you, but there's a lot of things about my present life and my life in the future that I'd like ask God about. As I think about it, I ask myself: is there a greater way to embark toward the future of what God has for us than through prayer? Our specific objective for Worship Center's Prayer Ministry is "to engage our congregation to pray regularly so that we grow in our relationship with Jesus." In other words, we want everyone who calls Worship Center "home" to have an intimate relationship with the Lord through prayer! We will be different, and we can make a difference if we pray.

My family had been attending Worship Center for about two years when we found out our 16-year-old daughter, Amy, had Stage IV cancer. During our brief time attending, we had gotten to know Pastor Tim Keller. When we found out about our daughter, I immediately called him and asked him if we could come up that Sunday for prayer with the elders. He agreed without hesitation, we did, and it was a blessing.

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Jeremiah 33:3 (NASB)

About a month later, my daughter was well into chemotherapy, had lost her hair, and was scheduled for eight more months of treatment. One Sunday, Pastor Sam spontaneously stopped the service and invited Amy, my wife, and myself up to the altar for prayer. He said, "I feel the Lord has told me that we as a church are to pray for Amy Tedder." A lot has happened since then, today our daughter is cured of cancer and living an amazing life!

Prayer has always been a core part of Worship Center.

At the beginning of 2017, we wanted to reemphasize prayer’s role in our church. As a prayer team, we have called our prayer partners to a higher level of commitment with pre-service prayer. Thirty minutes before every service, everyone at Worship Center is invited to come and pray in the Prayer Room. We’ve seen God do some amazing things during this time. Pastor Jim Cymbala says, "Only turning God's house into a house of fervent prayer will reverse the power of evil so evident in the world today."

Pastor Matt and I invite you to ask the Lord, "What are you saying to me about prayer?" We also invite you to come and see what the Lord will do in your life and the lives of people all over the world when we pray!

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
