Our Mark. His World. – Wk 1

Matthew 28:16-20 (NLT)

16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

THE 3 PILLARS OF THE GREAT COMMISSION:

1. Authority.

Colossians 1:15-18 (NLT)

15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
16 for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
17 He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
18 Christ is also the head of the church,
which is his body.
He is the beginning,
supreme over all who rise from the dead.
So he is first in everything.

2. Activity.

Make disciples, don’t just be a disciple.

– Be immersed in Christ.

Ephesians 2:19-21 (NLT)

19 So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.

– Teach new disciples to obey all the commands of Jesus.

John 13:34-35 (NLT)

34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

3. Ability.

COMMUNITY GROUP MEETING OUTLINE

Where your faith intersects with real life!

Reconnect:

Each person shares a recent high and low from their life.

Explore:

Review the message notes.

Big Idea: Jesus teaches his followers to find purpose by being part of the great commission.

Consider:

Choose one or two questions for your Group to discuss as time allows.

▶ Read Matthew 28:16-20. What does the authority Jesus was given call us to do? What is one way you live that out in your day-to-day life?

▶ Read Colossians 1:15-18. What does the head do for the body, and how is that like what Christ does for us?

▶ Read John 13:34-35. Simply put, our command is to love God and love others. How have you felt God’s love through someone else caring for you?

Activate:

Spend a moment in silence to consider your response, then share your decision with the Group.

Ask God who is one person you should be sharing His love with? What is one way you can share His love this week?

Prayer:

Thank God for the highs and lift up the lows.

As we launch this new series, “Our mark, His world”, pray that our church would be all that God has for us in this season.
