Hebrews: A Book Study – Wk 4

Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT)

14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Hebrews 4:13 (NLT)

13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

Hebrews 1:3 (NLT)

The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.

1 John 2:1-2 (NLT)

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

1 Timothy 2:5 (NLT)

For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.

Revelation 3:20 (NLT)

20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.

COMMUNITY GROUP MEETING OUTLINE

Where your faith intersects with real life!

Reconnect:

Each person shares a recent high and low from their life.

Explore:

Review the message notes.

Big Idea: Jesus Is the Great High Priest who intercedes for believers and invites them to approach God boldly.

Consider:

Choose one or two questions for your Group to discuss as time allows.

▶ Read Hebrews 4:13. What does it mean to be accountable to God?

▶ Read Hebrews 4:14-15. What are some of the “same testings” that Jesus had to face that are like ours?

▶ Read Revelation 3:20. What do you think keeps most people from answering the knock on their door – shame? Being too busy? Just being lazy?

▶ What made it worth it to the Father to send His son and make a way for us to have access to Him?

Activate:

Spend a moment in silence to consider your response, then share your decision with the Group.

Read Hebrews 4:16. Which do you need most at this time – mercy or grace – and why? What is the difference between mercy and grace?

Prayer:

Thank God for the highs and lift up the lows.

Pray that we would actually come boldly to the throne asking for grace and truth.
