Out of the Shadows

Refuge from Human Trafficking in India

An estimated 27 million people are enslaved through human trafficking, and the number just keeps growing. About 80 percent of human trafficking victims are women and girls. Most of these women and girls are forced into sexual slavery by their families, husbands, or just the desperate need to provide for their children. Many are never rescued.

Children of these women are born into sexual slavery and often live in the brothels with their mothers. They grow up living with and watching the evil that happens in these places. As a result, they also become immersed in sexual slavery and the cycle continues.
