Like so many good ideas, this one started with a “what if?” question. Some of us on staff wondered together if it would be better for groups to have two seasons instead of three for the following reasons:
• Several Support & Recovery groups only met for two sessions each year anyway so keeping track of which groups were meeting when would be easier.
• We could start them a little bit later so there would be a couple of extra weeks after Labor Day and the holidays.
• A later start would also mean people would have more time to get settled and consider committing to something new – both potential leaders and potential participants.
The more we talked, the more we liked the idea. Don't you love it when the Holy Spirit will plant a thought so we can watch it grow into maturity? The conversation grew to include Small Groups seasons as well. In the past, we've run into some obstacles launching new seasons while people get back into the swing of the school year or recover from the holidays. So, we began to circulate the idea. And it turned out people liked it!
Pastor Matt helped frame out the two-season structure for this next year.
August – ReGroup meeting – group gathering to pray, discuss and decide on group options for the coming year.
September 22 - Small Group Season officially starts (sign-ups will be the two weeks prior)
November 23 - Small Group Holiday Break (just before Thanksgiving)
January - Groups resume when it best suits them
February 2 - Small Group Season officially starts (sign-ups will be the two weeks prior)
May 24 – Small Group Summer Break (just before Memorial Day)
June – Summer Celebration with group
July – Picnic in the Park
August – ReGroup meeting – group gathering to pray, discuss and decide group options for the coming year.
This schedule means that the season starting in February would be much longer than what has been the norm. For this reason, and others, groups will also have the option of meeting weekly or bi-weekly and still be able to welcome new members to their group if they were open to having new members. We’re excited about this change and what it means for new groups. We're so thankful to work with such great teams! Better Together!
