Christ in Action (CIA) and Worship Center have a long history of partnering together to reach those in need following a natural disaster. CIA does incredible things and is a well-established entity in the world of disaster relief. They partner with teams deployed to meet the spiritual and physical needs of communities that have been affected by a disaster. They provide meals, showers, and lodging for teams who come to serve as well as equipment needed for clean-up. We were fortunate to send a team last year to Louisiana to assist with clean-up from the hurricanes that affected the St. Charles area.
Our Disaster Relief Team, led by our Global and Local Outreach Ministry, is working on casting a vision for Worship Center's involvement with disaster relief. Worship Center has such a generous spirit and a heart for those in need; disaster relief is an area where we want to see growth because we know God can use even tragedy and loss to expand his Kingdom and meet people’s individual needs.
Why Disaster Relief?
Disaster relief is a unique area of service within the church for several reasons. Often, we are unable to plan ahead for these trips or the location of them. We are placed in areas that are attempting to clean up, rebuild and meet their communities’ basic needs while also trying to accommodate the teams coming into their communities to help. The emotions can be raw, and the shock those communities experience is very fresh. This is a perfect opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ as we make sure basic needs are met. Our actions are the introduction these individuals have to Christ, and we are then able to follow up with prayer and the gospel.
1 John 3:18 says, "Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." Whether it be responding to disasters far away or right next door, let us be a church known for our actions.
